How do I link to a file using a button in WPBakery Page Builder?

Please note: this guide only applies to webpages which use the WPBakery Page Builder.

  1. Firstly, go to the “Media” link in your website’s dashboard:
  2. Optional:  If you’re replacing an existing file that’s already on your website, which you don’t need any longer, you may want to delete the old file first. This will ensure visitors and the Google search engine don’t continue to access your old files.
  3. To upload your new file, simply drag-and-drop the file into the screen. Or, click on the “Add New” link, as shown in the screenshot above.
  4. After a few seconds, the file will be uploaded to your website. Please note, for most websites, files must be under 8MB in size, otherwise you may not be able to upload the file.
  5. Next, either click on the thumbnail of the new file, or click the “Edit” link, depending on which method you used in Step #3.
  6. Now, copy the full address of your uploaded file in a box called either “Copy Link” or “File URL“:
  7. Next, click on the “Pages” menu and go into the page you want to edit:
  8. The WPBakery Page Builder system should be activated, so you’ll see a series of blocks similar to what’s displayed below. If you don’t see this, please follow our steps to activate the page builder.
  9. If you have an existing button on your page that you’re editing, simply hover over the button and click the “Edit” icon:(Or, if you don’t have an existing button already in place, then you’ll need to add a new button first. You can follow our instructions on adding new blocks).
  10. When editing the button, a popup screen will appear. Click the “Select URL” button and paste your file’s address into the “URL” box. This is the URL you copied in Step #6 above.
  11. Click “Save Changes“.
  12. And now publish / update your page. Your new file will now be visible to your website’s visitors.
